Today it is almost impossible to imagine our lives without internet.  Internet has become a major part of young people’s life and, much like oxygen, water, or electricity, are assumed to be a basic condition of modern life. Since the advent of internet, everyday lives of people has been changed drastically. The world of education has also drastically changed due this advancement.

Education sector has broken away from the traditional four walls, chalks and talks method. Teachers use the internet to supplement their lessons and impart knowledge to their students. They use online materials to prepare lessons. Interactive teaching methods, supported by the internet, enabled teachers to give more attention to students on one  on one basis. According to World Economic Forum, India holds an important place in the global education industry and has also become the second largest market for e-learning after US.

Education enables individuals to build more prosperous and successful lives and societies to achieve economic prosperity and social welfare. Access to Internet has opened doorways to the wealth of information and immense knowledge. It has also increased opportunities for learning in and beyond the classroom.

Students are seeing Google as a new teacher and the Internet as a school. At the click of a mouse, they can search out various information within seconds. Students can access to free video lectures online and refer to encyclopedias and study materials. Now we have YouTube, content rich websites, dictionaries everything on our fingertips. Widespread use of the internet has opened up a substantial amount of knowledge to a much broader range of people than ever before.

Increased accessibility of education at all levels has turned out to be a great repository of knowledge. People who have hectic schedule can benefit from online learning. Various free online courses are being offered by different institutions for everyone. Universities such as Harvard, Yale and Stanford have opened up free courses on a variety of subjects that are accessible to anyone for free. A number of IIMs and IITs too are now collaborating with top foreign universities to offer free online courses. These courses are cost effective and can be accessed by anyone at the any corner of the world.

Internet has allowed students to be in touch with their students 24×7. They can ask any doubts and queries irrespective of the time. Now with the help of social media, chat apps and email, students can attend the lecture which they have missed. Thus, internet has not only made education easily available to everyone in any corner of the world but it has only made our nation educated.

Internet is much faster than traditional education mediums. It cost relatively less than the regular courses of the universities. Anyone irrespective of their status and income can easily avail the courses offered online. People have opportunity to choose from the various courses, from the tough engineering courses to the cooking and fitness ones. Internet does much more than imparting knowledge. It is a storehouse of knowledge and one can definitely benefit from it if used wisely.

‘Be the change’ is the concept and we at Kailasha Foundation – Fun & Learn Portal aim at bringing the changes in people’s lives by providing Free Online education for all.

Indian Institute of Management(IIM) is a dream destination for every candidate who wants to go for management studies, which come true only through the hard work. IIM admission is not everyone’s piece of cake but is a lifetime achievement for those who grab it.

IIMs are one of the top B-Schools in the country that are autonomous institutes of management education and research in India. At present, there are 20 such IIMs which are operational in India. It is mandatory for management aspirants to crack the CAT examination in order to get admission in the IIM.Later, candidates get admission on the basis of their marks scored in IIM examination followed by GD-PI. Along with this there are different parameters considered by the IIMs are-

  1. Academic Performance – Marks obtained in Class Xth, XIIth and graduation are given weightage by some IIMs. IIM Ahmedabad gives 30% weightage to academic performance. IIM Bangalore awards 50% to academics.IIM Calcutta, IIM Lucknow, XLRI, FMS Delhi are some of the B-Schools who do not give a lot of value to past academic records.
  2. Work Experience –  Both duration as well as the quality of work experience are considered.IIM Bangalore gives 8% weightage to this criteria. It prefers candidates who have some work experience over fresh graduates.
  3. Diversity – To encourage more academically and gender-wise diverse batch, IIMs have started giving some weightage to applicants from Non-engineering background and female candidates.

“Diversity of perspectives contribute greatly to the discussion based learning that we employ at IIMA.Having a broader mix of participants without comprising on quality will enrich the academic experience of students even further.”

 – Prof Ashish Nanda, Director of IIMA

Thus, to get shortlisted, one should know the nitty-gritty of the selection procedure. Each of the IIMs has an elaborate process for admitting students. Some look for students with consistent academic records Some look for a diverse background. There are some who focus more on CAT and GD-PI.

Selection criteria weightage-

¤ IIM Ahmedabad

70% to CAT marks and 30% to Xth, XIIth and graduation marks.

¤ IIM Bangalore

40% CAT, Xth score 20%, XIIth 10%, graduation  20%, diversity 2% and work experience 8%.

¤ IIM Calcutta

CAT 28%, Xth 10%, XIIth 10% and gender diversity 2%.

Hence, good performance in CAT does not guarantee a call from the top B-School. For that to happen, the applicant should match the requirements of the respective IIMs. So don’t expect a call from top IIM even after scoring 99.9% if your past academic performance is bad.

‘Why it is important to go to college?’

The answer to this question is simple, that is, attending college provides vast opportunities and more exposure. When it comes to college education it becomes a lot more important to select the right course and right form of education. Students are confused whether to opt for regular attending graduation or graduation with correspondence.

It’s always best to go for a regular degree than the correspondence course. But there are many students who enroll in the correspondence course. It might seem easy and flexible at first but the reality is that it requires a lot more effort and discipline.

Regular Attending Graduation-A necessity

Regular attending graduation has its own merits and benefits. It shapes the life of a student and helps him to build a remarkable reputation.

There are many reasons for choosing regular attending graduation.

1-Direct contact with faculties

The biggest advantage of this mode of education is the direct contact with experienced professors. Students get an opportunity to have a one-on-one discussion with faculties. The professors have the solution to every query and problem of the students.

2-Atmosphere of learning

Ambience plays an important role while learning. It adds to learner’s strength and willingness to learn. Regular attending graduation gives proper atmosphere where a student can learn and recognize his full potential which increases efficiency. In this regard, distance graduation has a major drawback as neither can it generate the campus spirit nor can it give proper classroom situation.

3-Source of motivation

Regular attending graduation provides constant cheer and jeers to every student. They are fully motivated on a day-to-day basis so that they can achieve their target and goals. While in distance education, one has to motivate oneself.

4-High acceptance in job market

Students with a regular degree are given more importance than the one with distance education degree in the job market. Having a regular degree often provides for greater promotion opportunity. It helps students to acquire well-paid jobs.

5-Cultivation of professional attitude

This type of learning germinates professional attitude in students. They are given the pressure of completing targets and meeting deadlines through which students can learn professionalism. In this aspect, not going to college but studying from home is a major setback.

6- Social Interaction

Regular attending graduation gives students an opportunity to socialize and make new friends that they could not have met if they were not enrolled in a college. As they interact with new people from different cultures, they learn to embrace diversity and remove stereotypes associated with some cultures.

Also, this interaction helps to grow in a much better ways as one can learn from his/her fellow students. Learning together creates an environment of competition which ultimately benefited the student.

In the end, it’s better to say that correspondence course will cover up for the Bachelor’s degree, but not the practical issues one might face in the real world.

Choosing what to study after the 12th boards is the toughest job for every student. I am pretty much sure that each and every one of you has to go through great dilemma while deciding which is the right path for you.

So, on what basis do you make this decision?

Should you follow your heart, and study something you are passionate and enthusiastic about, or should you opt for a degree with more secure career route?

The answer to these questions is simple, you should study what you love.

We all are not cut from the same cloth. Everyone has different skills and abilities that make them sui generis from others. Having said that, the things like interest affect job engagement and that intrinsic motivation yields advancement and monetary success. That effort, drive and unrelenting dedication to whatever it is you choose will give you the best results regardless.

Studies have shown that happy people tend to earn higher salaries, and it stands to reason that these high-earners are happy – at least in part – because they have jobs they love. Enjoying your career should be a priority over earning a high salary or flashy title.

So why do I want you to study what you love?

First because otherwise your time at university just isn’t going to be as much fun and you won’t want to make the most of the incredible opportunities available to you. You need to be passionate about your subject as you’re going to be reading and writing thousands of words about it and spending hours discussing and thinking about it.

Second, because it is often the transferable skills that you develop while studying that are the key to getting a job and you’re more likely to develop good skills if you enjoy what you’re studying.

Reasons to study what you love.-

  1. The sense of fulfillment

Your job shouldn’t just be a source of income. If you don’t enjoy what you do, you’ll end up missing out on your life.

“A job that you love … gives you extra motivation to meet your goals, and when you do, the sense of accomplishment is outstanding,” said Masanari Arai, co-founder and CEO of Kii Corporation.

  1. Engagement

Studies show that to be engaged in your study, you need to find something that gives you meaning and that you enjoy doing. So how can you enjoy what you do?

It is simple, pursue something you love, engage in it and let it drive your job search. You can’t be fully engaged in your studies until and unless you love doing it.

  1. Productivity

Steve Jobs famously said, “the only way to do great work is to love what you do”.

It’s important to feel motivated and inspired in your career. Without the drive to excel, your performance will lack passion and, in turn, your company may suffer. Productivity allows you to work in the most efficient manner, which makes room for downtime and encourages work-life balance.

  1. Opportunity

Studying something you love can open doors for you.  You’ll find opportunities—some might even find you. Employers want to hire employees who are passionate about what they do.  As your passions evolve, so will opportunities and appraisals.

  1. Job satisfaction

Studies have shown that there is little correlation between people’s salaries and their job satisfaction. When you study what you love, you are likely to succeed and land your dream job easily. Your salary earned will be equal to the job satisfaction, or it can even be more.

  1. Inspiration

There’s no greater success story than that of someone who followed their dreams, chose the path they love and excel in it. Show your fellow students, friends, family and future colleagues that studying what you love has huge rewards, from enthusiasm in the classroom to long-term satisfaction in the workplace.

“When you love what you do, you are compelled to push against yourself,” said Amir Zonozi, chief of strategy at Zoomph .”You want to be where you are challenging yourself, and you are competing with yourself in achieving your vision.”

You will graduate with a higher GPA if you are engaged with what you are learning, and higher GPAs can translate to certain job opportunities and graduate school admission. Not to mention, there is a fairly strong correlation between class rank and career earnings.

But should we all follow our passions?

Studies also show us that doing so can be a recipe for professional disaster, simply for the fact that many passions aren’t transferrable to skills that can be marketed. So firstly, find what you truly love and is passionate about. Secondly, do the research about the chosen

So firstly, find what you truly love and is passionate about. Secondly, do the research about the chosen

Secondly, do the research about the chosen degree, that is, what are its career prospects, job opportunities and does it provide security. Lastly, talk with your

Lastly, talk with your parents, discuss with them about your decision. If your parents are not satisfied with your decision, then make them understand why you want to pursue a certain degree. Before deciding anything you should be looking at all the pros and cons.

Find which subject you are interested in.
Want to paint? Paint .

Want be sing? Sing.

Want to be an engineer? Be an engineer, then Want to manage money ? Manage money.

Want to teach? Teach.

Want to be a doctor? Then , be a doctor.

Do whatever you love and give your 100% in achieving your goals. Study and study what you love because it is you, who have the power to make your dreams come true.

“Study what you love, and you’ll never have to work a day in your life. It’ll be one great adventure.”

-David Gerrold

In the business world, risks are dominant problems which are faced by every entrepreneur. So businesses are constantly looking out for professionals who could handle and manage risks efficiently. Here, in the picture comes Actuarial Science.

What is Actuarial Science?

Actuarial Science is the discipline that assesses financial risks in the insurance and finance fields using Mathematical and statistical methods.

Actuarial science includes a number of interrelated subjects including mathematics, probability theory, statistics, finance, economics, and computer science. Actuaries are professionals who are qualified in this field through intense education and experience. Actuaries have a detailed knowledge about financial, economic, demographic and insurance risks. They are an expert developing and using financial and statistical methods to inform financial decisions.

Actuaries are the true seers of the and finance industry. They carefully analyze the probability of financial risks and develop creative solutions to mitigate these risks. In short, they predict the future and protect the people and companies from potential harms. The actuaries have great career opportunities as their judgement forms the basis of decision making for many business and enterprises. A study by Georgetown University’s Center on Education and the Workforce discovered that actuarial science graduates had a near-zero unemployment rate in 2010. Along with that, the career in actuarial science is expected to grow 26% in the next 8 years. The work of an actuary involves a lot of number crunching and the nature of work is quite tedious, nevertheless, it offers rewards in terms of intellectual challenge, status, job satisfaction and earnings.

Career Prospects

An actuary in India typically works in the fields of Life Insurance, General Insurance, Health Insurance, Pension Funds, Government and Risk Management.

The role that an actuary can perform in each of these sectors can be quite varied, such as product pricing, financial modeling, valuations, risk management, carrying out peer reviews, designing social security schemes, advice on the premium to be charged etc. Actuaries are seriously smart. Actuaries go through rigorous undergraduate training and while they can be employed immediately, they must undergo an additional 5 to 10 years of training and complete 7-9 exams to achieve full actuarial status, called fellowship.

In order to become an actuary in India, one has to enroll with the Institute of Actuaries of  India (IAI) which regulator the training and education of actuaries in India. Then by passing  the ACET (Actuarial Common Entrance Test) and then clearing the requisite 15 papers. However, one do not have to clear all the 15 papers to secure an entry level job. After clearing 5–6 CT Papers, one can start applying for jobs that pay at max. 6–7 L per annum.

Following are the eligibility criteria to become an actuary:

  • 10+2 (H.S.C) or equivalent
  • Or Post Graduate in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, Engineering, MBA (Finance) and other similar qualifications.

Fully qualified members of professional bodies such as:

◆The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India

◆Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India

◆Certified Institute of Financial Analysts of India

◆Fellow of Insurance Institute of India

◆Proficient in mathematics & statistics

There is a huge demand for actuaries in both developing and developed countries such as India, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, US, UK. Some of the companies that hire actuaries in India include Max Bupa Health Insurance, WNS, Towers Watson, PwC Actuarial Services India, Mercer, Directorate of Postal Life Insurance, McKinsey Advanced Healthcare Analytics, IDBI etc. There is a never-ending demand for actuaries all over the world.

If there is one field where career prospects are abundant because the demand exceeds supply, it is Actuarial Science. If you have interest in this field then go for it as success awaits for you.

India has 540 million citizens who are under the age of 25. According to IMF(International Monetary Fund), this could help the country gain 2% of GDP growth. But the main conundrum is that India has only 604 universities, and about 4000 colleges only, less than 50% of what it needs to achieve its target of a 30% gross enrolment rate in higher education by 2020.

“Indian cannot build enough brick and mortar universities to meet the exploding demand for higher education from millions of its youth and must rely on Digital technology instead”-Kapil Sibal, Former Telecom Minister of India.

In this digitalized world, the digital education has been a boon to the education system
of India.

Digital education is now more of a rule than an exception due to the increased access to technology. No longer one need to have access to school, time or lot of money. All one needs is a good internet connection and a mobile phone. More than a billion people in India have mobile phones and across 200 million of them have internet connection. This has been a boon for the education system in the country. Digital education solves the pressing problems faced by the India’s education system today. You can take any course of your choice, learn at your own place and contact with the online experts with any queries you might have at a reasonable cost. Many of the websites give a valid certificate for the course taken up. This is surely a blessing for we students.

Almost every school in the country wants to be regarded as a technologically advanced school. Digital education has made this possible. It provides the same world-class education to every student irrespective of their background or financial condition. Teachers get to spend more time to actually work with their students,by automating mundane tasks like note making, lesson planning etc. This will shape the teacher-student relationship by offering better accessibility, distribution and formats of delivery.

It is only through technology that we can solve the three core issues of the education sector—access to quality education, effective learning and personalization—at scale. In addition, tech-enabled learning offers scope for instant interactivity, further opening up the route for quality learning for students irrespective of their geographical location. The use of technology has already shown some early signs of the traditional classroom teaching model being transformed into digital learning programmes that are highly self-driven and backed by active learning.

There are multiple benefits of digital learning in transforming a child’s life like: Motor Skills, Decision Making, Visual Learning, Cultural Awareness, Improved Academic Performance, Inventiveness etc. Students use internet to do research and find proper text notes, videos and presentations related to anything of their choice. Also there are so many websites that have competitions that helps in imparting knowledge and intellectual learning. Not only this, children in rural areas can benefit from the digital learning. Affordable high-speed internet and direct-to-device technologies are empowering rural students to get quality resources and education, anywhere and anytime. Digital education will help in making India an egalitarian society.

Digital Future of Indian Education

According to Black’s Law Dictionary, Privacy means “the right to be let alone; the right of a person to be free from any unwarranted publicity; the right to live without any unwarranted interference by the public in matters with which the public is not necessarily concerned”

Privacy is the basic right which is inherent to every individual of our country. It implies that there is a core human personality that must be free from intrusion. In USA, UK and at International level UDHR(Universal Declaration of Human Rights), ICCPR(International Covenant on Civil Political Right) and ECHR(European Convention on Human Rights)  the right to privacy has been recognised as a fundamental right.

Article 21 of the Constitution of India states that

“No person shall be deprived of his life or personal liberty except according to procedure established by law.”

After reading the Article 21, it has been interpreted that the term ‘life’ includes all those aspects of life which go to make a man’s life meaningful, complete and worth living. The Right to Privacy is a part of this.

In the 1950s, the Right to Privacy was not given much importance. The first time the issue of Right to privacy was ever raised in the case of M.P. Sharma v. Satish Chandra, AIR 1954 SC 300. It was held that they cannot bring privacy as the fundamental right because it is something alien to Indian Constitution.

In Kharak Singh v. the State of UP, AIR 1963 SC 1295, it was held by the Court that the right to privacy is a part of the right to protection of life and personal liberty. Here, the Court had equated privacy to personal liberty.

Later in the cases, Govind v. State of Madhya Pradesh, AIR 1975 SC 1378 and Maneka Gandhi v Union of India, AIR 1978 SC 597, the right to privacy was recognized.

Unni Krishnan v State of A.P., AIR 1993 SC 2178 numbered the twelve meanings of the right to life, and the right to privacy was one of them. The scope and ambit of the’right to be left alone’ came up for consideration before the Supreme Court in R. Rajagopal v. the State of T.N. during 1994. Court held that the right to privacy is implicit in the right to life and liberty guaranteed by Article 21.

Right to Privacy-Fundamental Right

On 24th August 2017, a nine-judge constitution bench of the Supreme Court held that privacy is a fundamental right under the Constitution of India in case of  Justice K.S.Puttaswamy v. Union of India.

“Privacy is intrinsic to the right to life and personal liberty under Article 21 of the Constitution and will be included under part III of the Constitution,” said chief justice J.S. Khehar while pronouncing the unanimous verdict. Supreme Court has ruled that privacy is a fundamental right that requires constitutional protection.

It was always known or assumed to be a common law right.

“Right to Privacy” will now find place under Part III of the Constitution of India along with other fundamental rights: right to equality before law, right to various freedoms such as speech and expression/to move freely, right against exploitation, right to freedom of religion, cultural and educational rights and right to constitutional remedies. Right to privacy is not an absolute right, it has limitations that need to be identified on the case-to-case basis. It is subject to certain reasonable restrictions which the State is entitled to impose on the basis of social, moral and compelling public interest in accordance with law. However, such a restriction of the fundamental right to privacy must be justified by a robust regime that ensures the fulfilment of a three-tiered test: the restriction must be provided by law, in pursuance of a legitimate aim, and is proportional to the object and needs sought to be fulfilled by such law.

“In the business people with expertise, experience and evidence will make more profitable decisions than people with instinct, intuition, and imagination”.

You can be an expert and experienced in this by having the thorough knowledge about business. One should know about the business organization, business laws, accountancy, business environment and business ethics. To be a pro in this, one can pursue BBA- an undergraduate course.

What is BBA?

BBA stands for Bachelor of Business Administration is a bachelor’s degree in commerce and business administration. In the USA, the degree is conferred after four years of full-time study in one or more areas of business concentrations. In India, the degree is conferred after three years. The degree is designed to give a broad knowledge of the functional aspects of a company and their interconnection, while also allowing for specialization in a particular area.

BBA Curriculum

The BBA consists of a combination of generic and specific courses which are designed to equip a student for different career paths in the future. However, generally speaking, through the course of their studies, students will cover aspects of all business-related disciplines such as marketing, management, human resource management, finance, economics, and several IT and communication skills courses.

 Why BBA?

Selecting a business administration major is one of the smartest choices incoming freshmen or transfer students can make. There are three solid reasons behind this.

  1. Getting the big picture

In today’s job market, college graduates often need to be flexible when they are seeking their first position right out of college. For example, a person who would prefer a job in the tech sector might discover that it’s easier to get hired in the transportation sector of the economy instead.

With a business degree in hand, this recent graduate will have skills that apply to a wide range of companies. This can make the transition between college and career smoother and possibly a lot faster.

  1. Acquiring management skills

Many ambitious college graduates look forward to the day when they can start their own businesses. Entrepreneurship is an exciting and sometimes lucrative career path. It’s interesting to note that many successful entrepreneurs start their businesses with a co-founder and often that person is a school acquaintance or someone they met early in their careers. For example, Microsoft co-founders Bill Gates and Paul Allen met in middle school. All four Facebook co-founders met in college.

If you think a startup might be in your future, it’s possible that when you’re working your way through your business administration major, you could connect with the future co-founder of your company!

  1. Develop business acumen:

As a student of a BBA course, you will achieve an understanding of how to assess right problems that businesses face; examine balance sheets, budgets, and other financial accounting tools and be familiar with factors that have an effect on company’s decision-making processes. All of these things will help you build up strong business acumen — the ability to make splendid decisions, those benefit in the company’s success rate. These proficient skills can help you stand out among employers, giving you a border when you pursue your next job.

 Career Prospects

One of the best reasons for completing a BBA degree is that it opens doors to numerous career paths in the future. While BBA graduates may opt for business-related disciplines and career paths such as Sales and Marketing, General Management, Banking, Real Estate, Trade and Advertising, working as Business Analysts and Consultants, Marketing Managers, Financial Analysts, and Accountants, they can also opt for other generic career paths such as teaching.

MBA after BBA

An increasing number of business professionals are finding that an MBA is critical to their future plans. Most MBA programs require their applicants to have some practical business experience before being accepted.

Prospective students with an undergraduate business administration major have a much easier time positioning themselves professionally prior to applying to schools to get into an MBA program. This increases their chances to get accepted to their school of choice. And once in the program, they will find themselves studying familiar subject areas, which gives them an academic edge.

At last, it is correct to conclude that BBA has great future aspects. It is worth taking up in the graduation course. The BBA degree remains a highly attractive option for undergraduate studies! If you are planning on pursuing a business degree, you might as well take the plunge!

“Sky is the limit of business, so go achieve and soar the sky”.
