खेलोगे कूदोगे बनोगे नवाब

It is sad to see how the small munchkins are busy playing on phones, laptops or just being busy in peer pressure of being modernized. A play is almost going off from their lives being digitally involved in electronics. But we need to understand why Play is important.

So, do you know what is play?

Play or say Playing is basically a physical or mental activity devoid of any specific purpose other than playing.

You can call it as the universal language that children love to communicate with each other and it enhances their imagination to design/think of games and play way methods to connect to their world.

3 reasons why the Play should be allowed

  • Play lays the ground for literacy –

Through play, children learn and practice new sounds. They try to invent new words in their own language. They also discover their imagination through play.

  • Play promotes all kind of development –
Through role plays and reading games, a child is able to develop their cognitive ability also known as intellectual and mental development.

For example, if they play doctor role set, they will learn about doctor, medicine and related things.

Socioemotional development –

Playing with friends or even parents a child is able to connect emotionally with their playmates which develops their social and emotional connection.

Physical development –

It includes both fine motor and gross motor development.
Fine motor includes fine finger movement, hand-eye coordination, hand – hand coordination etc., whereas gross motor means running, hopping, and moving in response to rhythm.

  • Play helps them to be expressive –
They grow to be expressive by their favorite game or toy or playmate. A playmate can be a kid of same age or a neighbor or even either of the parent.

They also learn to express their happiness during play. Anger or sadness due to acts which they don’t like.

Do you know what is Play way method of education ?

It is teaching a child through play. For example teaching them about animals through story role play, spelling games, flash card games to teach alphabet or numbers, dough rolling, personal hygiene through doll cleaning play etc.

So by now you must be aware why play is important. Be a little kid with the child as play is a necessity not an option.
Kailasha Foundation wishes to grow every tiny seed into a huge fruitful tree.

Often heard about motivation, Isn’t it? But what actually is motivation and how it works?

We, at Kailasha foundation, care about the students’ mental state as well, boards are approaching and many of the students need motivation. For motivation, it is not necessary to give long lectures or stories. If we know what it is and how it work any of us can help students around.

What is Motivation?

Motivation refers to a state of a person that directs the behaviour of the individual towards certain goals.

Some students seem naturally enthusiastic about learning, but many need or expect their instructors to inspire, challenge and stimulate them.

According to Erickson, 1978:
“Effective learning in the classroom depends on the teacher’s ability to maintain the interest that brought the students to the course in the first place”. For example, A teacher using different methods of teaching a concept will make the student more curious and motivated towards it in comparison to a teacher who simply uses board and chalk method.

Whereas, Sass, 1989 said that “Not all the students are motivated by same values, needs, desires or wants. Some of your students will be motivated by approval of others, some by overcoming challenges”. Here I would like to like you about two of our students. We were teaching them about chemical bonds and they seemed less interested. Being one of their important subjects, we had to motivate them. The problem was Same but we couldn’t handle them with the same method. We gave them a quiz, one of them was excited and thus got motivated to study while the other one was still uninterested.

General strategies for Motivation:

1. Make students participate actively in learning

The best way is to involve them in the process of learning. Students learn better by doing, making, writing, designing, creating and solving. Passivity surely dampens students motivation and curiosity.

Here are some points which the teacher should know –

  • Teacher’s enthusiasm
  • Relevance of the material
  • Organisation of the course
  • Appropriate difficulty level of the material
  • Active involvement of students
  • Variety
  • Rapport between students and teacher
  • Use of appropriate, concrete and understandable examples

2. Feedback

This is really important as this helps the students to analyse their abilities. This should be done as soon as test/challenges are because it keeps the interest intact.

3. Reward Success –

Both negative and positive comments influence motivation, but research clearly says students are more affected by positive feedback and rewards.

The rewards don’t always need to be a medal or trophy. Appraising or small inexpensive gifts can also do it. For example, a nursery student feels happiest when the teacher rewards them with a star or smiley whereas a class 10 student will be happy when praised during the class or assembly time even by claps.

3. Negative/demeaning comments

Frequently seen the teacher drains their frustration on students by giving negative feedbacks. In this case what we can do is avoiding too sensitive comments and instead encourage the students by giving them a new task and hence motivating them to do better.
One can also try daily motivation quotes, such as:

4. Providing the plate full

Not all students are average, some are lazy to solve/find solutions or write/frame answers. We rob their chance to think about the question and its solution. We can ask the students what is their thought about the questions, what are facts they know about it and what facts are not cleared. Clear their doubts and then ask them to build the answer. This will surely enhance their thought and work process. Then praise them for their efforts to keep them motivated.

5. Pressure and Success stories

Due to the highly competitive world, almost 99% of the students face peer pressure to do excellent. Here we should explain to them why are the parents concerned? What are their pressuring methods and correct the parents as well if needed?

We should also share the success stories because that definitely increases their inner efforts to reach their goals. Success is not easy, by sharing such stories we may make them feel you are not only the one on the path of hard work and your hard work will surely pay off.

All we need is to help them to experience the sense of achievement and increase their confidence so as to keep them motivated.

Learning with fun is the concept and Kailasha Foundation – Fun & Learn Portal is doing endeavours in that directions on daily basis.

Have you ever wondered that handwriting of an individual can tell us many things about a person’s personality and behavior?
Handwriting Analysis which is also known as Graphology is the science which deals with the assessment of physical characteristics and patterns of handwriting to indicate the personality and behavior of any individual.

How is it useful?

Every individual has a unique handwriting style which depicts their personality. It is widely used to assess handwriting and interrogate about their physical and mental state. It is used in the recruitment process, career counseling, behavior therapy and even for forensic investigations.

How to analyze?

There are different points in which we analyze the handwriting. Here we are sharing the basic points.
1. Pressure –
When the pressure is heavy it is said that the person is deeply emotional whereas when it is light, it is said that the person is emotionally not expressive.

2. Space –
If it is wide the person is a freedom lover and doesn’t like to be overwhelmed.
If it is less the person is not good at time management but likes to be with someone.
If it is even the person is well sorted in life.
3. Size of the letters –
Small – good concentration with a narrow perspective of life.
Big – broad perspective of life with less concentration though they hardly get bored.
4. Slanting way –
Right – moody and relatable to other people.
Left – Independent and introvert.
Straight – less expressive and good at controlling themselves.
5. Connection of letters –
Connected – logical and good at decision-making.
Not connected – Intelligent and intuitive
6.Dot –
Hollow – playful and creative.
Solid – attentive.
7. Direction of sentence –
Upward – optimistic.
Downward – a sign of discouragement.
Wavy – a sign of instability.

Above we have only briefly listed, how handwriting could be analyzed to check different personality traits. The exact analysis requires good knowledge as certainly, exceptions are present everywhere.

What handwriting analysis can’t tell you?

This doesn’t tell us the sex, age, the nationality of the writer or whether the writer is left or right handed. It also doesn’t predict your future but surely helps you to bring changes through your handwriting.
We hope you find this article an interesting one and do a brief analysis of your own writing. Feel free to share and discuss your doubts or results with us.

Meditation…a word which one hear in day to day life but do you know what exactly meditation is…Have questions regarding meditation…??

Learn meditation with Kailasha Foundation.

What is Meditation…?

Meditation is a state of thoughtlessness awareness. It is a practice where an individual trains his mind to promote relaxation, build internal energy and develop power(read power of love/passion/forgiveness/patience and generosity).

How to meditate…?

Here, I am going to discuss simplest steps to meditate.

  1. Choose a calm place.
  2. Sit or lie down comfortably.
  3. Breath naturally.
  4. And then focus on your breathing pattern and see(notice) how your body moves with each breath.
  5. Once you are done, open your eyes slowly and gently.
  6. On day 1,start this for 3-5 minutes And gradually increase the time.
  7. If you are doing this for small span of time, you can practice twice a day too.
  8. You can add calm music or om chants to your meditation sessions.

This is the simplest way. The mind will divert with many thoughts while focusing on your breath .Be gentle with your mind and restart meditating.

Who should meditate…?

When we look around we see stress, tensions, uneasiness, hatred, confusions, various diseases and so on.

Be it a 5 year kid struggling with his heavy bags or a 17 year teenager stressed due to exams. An old lady sick of her loneliness or a 40 year man tensed due to his business or a patient or even an accident victim.

Anyone and everyone should make meditation a habit for a healthy mind just like we provide healthy food to our body or good cloths yo cover the body.

Meditation is a simple method,we should bring it into our daily routine. You may follow the simple proper technique or join any meditation classes to learn.

How does Meditation work…?

Meditation is an art of quieting your mind,a state of thoughtlessness.

When you quiet your conscious mind, you can become aware of the rest of your mind, which thinks differently than the conscious mind thinks. While the conscious mind thinks in symbols, the rest of the mind thinks in terms of experience. When you quiet your conscious mind, you can become aware of what you are experiencing. This tends to calm and help them see our lives differently. It brings us to a focus on the present, instead of ruminating about the past or thinking too much about the future.

Previously we discussed menstrual cycle.

Lets talk about PCOS in detail…

PCOS is short term for Poly-cystic Ovarian Syndrome. It is a common endocrine system disorder among females of reproductive age. Studies suggest that  2 out of 10 females suffer from this.

What is the cause of PCOS?

PCOS arises from a hormonal imbalance in the female body which causes enlarged ovaries with small cyst/fibroid in it. The exact cause of PCOS is still unrevealed. But the research says females are more prone to PCOS if their mother/sister is already suffering from it. It is a sort of genetic disorder.

What are the hormones that are responsible for PCOS?

Androgen, which is a male hormone is mainly responsible for this. A female body also produces this hormone but in this syndrome, the adrenal gland produces a higher level of androgen. The other cause for a high level of androgen is an excess level of insulin.(Insulin is a hormone that helps to convert sugar and starch into energy).

What are the symptoms?

  1. Infrequent/absent/irregular periods.
  2. Hirsutism – increased hair growth on the face, breast, and stomach.
  3. Acne/oily skin.
  4. Male pattern baldness or thinning of hair.
  5. Obesity-weight gain especially around the waist and heavy breast.
  6. Infertility- difficulty in pregnancy.
  7. Depression or anxiety.
  8. Deeper voice
  9. Pelvic pain.
  10. Diabetes type 2 or high cholesterol or increase in thyroid hormones may also be marked.

How to diagnose?

If a female goes through the symptoms or even only irregular periods, she should consult a gynecologist.
It is a common disease which is curable so every female should be aware of it and doesn’t hesitate to Consult a gynecologist.

A gynecologist will do your medical examination and check your medical history. With following tests, PCOS can be diagnosed.

  1. Physical examination to look for overweight and hair growth.
  2. Pelvic examination to check for swollen ovaries or clitoris.
  3. Blood test to check hormone levels, sugar level, and cholesterol level.
  4. A vaginal ultrasound or a low abdominal ultrasound to check the ovaries.
  5. In the case of infertility, Dr may ask for pelvic laparoscopy.

What are the treatments available for PCOS?

Albeit PCOS is still not completely curable, So the gynecologists focus more on curing the symptoms which vary from female to female.

The first line treatment for PCOS is hormonal medication which should strictly be done by consulting a gynecologist. Taking artificial hormones without any prior consultation may lead to more worse situations.

Secondary, change in lifestyle and diet may help in boosting the treatment. As obesity and depression are the most common symptoms, a healthy lifestyle which must include healthy food and proper exercises to reduce weight may help. For depression which is mainly due to high weight gain and abnormal hair growth, counseling works however, knowledge about the disease and its proper treatment is a must.

What could we do as a society?

As PCOS is very commonly found in females of young/reproductive age, we as a society should educate females about the normal menstrual cycle, PCOS and other issues related to reproductive health. We should make them feel that PCOS or any disease is not a matter of shame/embarrassment. Being a male/female companion or a friend or brother/sister or parents, we should try to talk about these things and break the taboo and spread awareness about it.

Spread knowledge,
Spread happiness.

Let’s talk about periods – Menstrual Cycle

I still remember, I was 10 years old when my mother explained me about puberty and menstrual cycle but along with that she told me not to say anything about it in front of anyone. At that moment of time,I said OK and never spoke about it or even with my female friends I would discuss this in a low tone. But I never got the reason why we did so? We want males to understand everything about us,but we don’t talk on such topics like periods or sex or desires, all this being taboo.

Isn’t it?

So let’s talk about it and clear all the doubts on it.

What is menstrual cycle?

Menstruation cycle is a natural process which happened with every healthy woman from the age of puberty till menopause. In general terms,we call this “periods”. Periods can be defined as monthly discharge of blood and  dead cells from uterus though vagina. It starts with puberty and ends at menopause.

This complete cycle varies from 21 days to 35 days. A female body goes through a series of periodic changes every month. Every month ovaries releases an egg, this is called as ovulation. During ovulation uterus secrets hormone which prepares the female body for pregnancy. If egg doesn’t gets fertilized, the lining of uterus sheds through vagina, and this is what we call periods.

What is female reproductive system?

The two ovaries, Fallopian tubes, uterus, vagina, vulva, mammary glands and breasts together are called as female reproductive system.

Ovaries are a pair of gland. They are almond sized and are located on right and left sides of pelvic region. It secretes estrogen and progesterone and also makes egg(ovum).

Fallopian tubes are pair of muscular tubes connecting the ovaries to the uterus.

Uterus is hollow muscular organ which is located a little above and back to urinary bladder. It is connected to Fallopian tubes on its superior end and to vagina on its inferior end. It supports the developing fetus during pregnancy. The lining of uterus sheds if egg doesn’t gets fertilized.

Vagina is an elastic, muscular tube that connects the cervix of the uterus to the exterior of the body. It is located inferior to the uterus and posterior to the urinary bladder. The vagina functions as the receptacle for the penis during sexual intercourse and carries sperm to the uterus and Fallopian tubes. It also serves as the birth canal by stretching to allow delivery of the fully developed fetus during childbirth. During menstruation, the dead cells and unfertilized egg in the form of  menstrual flows out of  the body via vagina.

Breast are specialized organs of the female body that contain mammary glands, milk ducts, and adipose tissue. Breast and mammary glands are the secondary reproductive organ.

What hormones are secreted during menstrual cycle?

Day 1 of menstrual cycle  starts from first day of periods itself. During this time the level of estrogen and progesterone is low due to which FSH(follicle Stimulating Hormone) is secreted by pituitary gland. FSH is responsible for maturing of follicle. Follicle is a fluid filled sac which contains the egg, the largest cell in human body.

Then after 4-5 days follicle produces estrogen to prepare uterus for pregnancy.

At around 12-14 day, level of estrogen shoots up and it triggers release of LH(Luteinizing Hormone) from pituitary gland. This causes release of egg from follicle.

Then the ruptured follicle secretes progesterone and estrogen so that the uterus prepares itself for pregnancy.

If the egg doesn’t get fertilized, level of progesterone and estrogen decreases and then the lining of uterus sheds and causes vaginal bleeding.

P.S- Estrogen and Progesterone are released from ovaries and adrenal gland.

What is PMS ?

Pre – Menstrual Syndrome – PMS is combination of symptoms that a female suffer for a week or more, before their periods.

It is a set of psychological and physical sufferings. Psychological symptoms include mood swings, anger and depression. While physical symptoms are breast tenderness and bloating and some times muscle cramps too. However these symptoms vary from female to female.

What is the Duration of periods?

The vaginal bleeding varies in every female. On an average it may go for 3-7 days.

In the first three days, bleeding is heavy and declines after that ending on 5-7th day.

Irregular periods- It may be  PCOS

Sometimes the periods may occur before date and sometimes they delay. Bleeding also varies from low in some to high in others. This maybe due to hormonal imbalance. This is called PCOS:- Polycystic ovary syndrome. This is a disorder involving infrequent or prolonged menstrual periods or excess male hormone (androgen) levels.

What are sanitary pads?

It is an absorbent cloth/pad worn by female during periods .
These are common in India. While is some other country tampons are also used during periods. Tampons are also absorbents but they are not large as pads. These are small cylindrical pads that are inserted at the mouth of vagina during periods. Even in today’s scenario women in villages prefer cloths over pads. They say they feel more comfortable when they use cloth as most of the pads causes rashes. However, most girls and women are ill-informed on the frequency of changing sanitary napkins due to which rashes and infections occur. With advertisements of leading sanitary napkin companies stating 12 hour and more protection, majority of pad users changes the pad only once or twice a day. If a pad (or even a cloth) is not changed 3-4 times a day, it might lead to bacterial infections. Also cloth may contains germs if not stored properly and  sometime may lead to infection even after frequent changing.

Being a female,I am not ashamed of talking about periods. Let’s understand this.
