NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS of 2018

When everyone is making new year resolutions, act wisely. Choose the best ones and get the most of it. Prove to be a winner and glory will be all yours.

1) Make a list of your strength and weaknesses:

new year resolutions - 1

Generally what happens, before applying for a job or joining a company people aren’t even aware of what are their strength and weaknesses. So make a list of the same, this will help you in knowing yourself, and accordingly apply for the job

2) Job complementary to your personality

new year resolutions - 2

After you’re done with your list, figure out the Job which suits you the best. It would certainly be easier for you to get the Job which requires the characteristics inbuilt in your personality

3) Job contradictory to your personality

new year resolutions - 3

If you’re determined and focused on one particular company/Job/ Position, and somewhat you lack some features essential for it, you can accordingly work for it. On a practical note it’ll take time but eventually, you’ll get what you dreamt of

4) Set monthly/weekly/daily goals

new year resolutions - 4

People tend to follow this practice for a period of one or two months, and in search of instant results, this planning fails. You need to understand that if you want to achieve big, patience is the only key. Achievements are the results of thousands of small efforts hidden behind. So plan yourself and your day, make every hour productive

5) Develop a hobby

new year resolutions - 5

Hobby doesn’t imply that you need to have a creative side in you, but anything that relaxes you can be your hobby. For example- Painting can be your hobby but it doesn’t require that you must be good at it. Rather it signifies your learning capacity and openness towards creativity and innovation

6) Cast yourself in a routine

new year resolutions - 6

Corporate life is hectic. You need to be passionate as well as disciplined to cope up with that. It isn’t a matter of a day or a week that you’ll suddenly get into that routine even if you get the Job rather you’ll feel frustrated. So it’s better that, in the early 20s of yours you get yourself either involved or get used to working and taking pressure on a daily basis.

7) Gather work experience

new year resolutions - 7

A work experience doesn’t need to be going to a corporate office, managing files and attending meetings. It can be anything where u work under somebody, achieve targets and know how to work in a team. This gives you a teaser of the real cinema you’re going to be a part of.

8) Be a leader

new year resolutions - 8

People often confuse leader with a dictator or someone who’s popular or whose opinion people want to hear. I would say be a leader of yourself, have an opinion about what’s going on, but be well aware of it, it isn’t necessary that people will agree to it, but at least you won’t be a follower.

9) Get off social media and back in the game of work because social media is a tool, not a job

new year resolutions - 9

Once you upload your credentials, get back out into the real world. Limit your time on social media to a few minutes a day at specified times, such as before going to work, during your lunch break, or at home in the evening. Social media isn’t a job, it’s a tool. A contractor doesn’t live for his hammer. He or she put it to work building things.

10) Apply cautiously

new year resolutions - 10

The application form sometimes doesn’t even get a minute of the HR, so while applying put your best foot forward. Mention the highest and most recent as well relevant degree you’ve achieved. Clearly and boldly mention the additional skills you’ve acquired previously. If you have a work experience, it should form the most important part of your resume because it certainly places you higher above the freshers

PLU code

PLU stands for price look-up. IFPS PLU codes are used on produce items that are sold loose or bunched, by weight or by each (i.e. an individual apple or bunch of greens). An IFPS PLU code contains 4 to 5 digits. The IFPS PLU code is key-entered at the point of sale in order to obtain the price. IFPS PLU codes are approved and assigned by

International Price Look-Up (PLU) numbering scheme for produce items. The international PLU system is governed by voluntary cooperation of participating countries that are represented by national or regional representatives on the International Federation for Produce Standards (IFPS) Board of Directors. PLU codes have been used by supermarkets since 1990 to make check-out and inventory control easier, faster, and more accurate.

In 2001, the national users of PLU codes for produce met and formed a group to administer PLU codes at a global level. That group, now the IFPS, continues to address harmonization of the international PLU codes for produce items and is a forum for other standardization efforts impacting the produce sector. New IFPS PLU applications may be reviewed at a regional or national level before submission to the IFPS. The IFPS recognizes that a regional or national review group may exist to ensure this process.

IFPS Member

IFPS membership is divided into two classes:

Ordinary Members: National trade associations or groups of regional trade associations acting in a broad representative capacity that are representing the interests of companies actively engaged in the fresh produce industry supply chain.

Associate Members: Any individual or organization associated with the fresh produce industry supply chain, but not operating as part of it.

IFPS National or Regional Review Group

Groups of national trade associations and/or industry representatives responsible for the review of IFPS PLU applications before submission to the IFPS. Depending on the region this national review may then flow through a regional review group before submission to the IFPS.

Restricted Use IFPS PLU codes

A PLU code approved and assigned by the IFPS Board for produce either

  1. a) restricted FOR use only in one specific country or group of countries or
  2. b) restricted FROM use in one specific country or group of countries.

Retailer Assigned IFPS PLU codes

A PLU code approved and assigned by an individual retailer for use in their retail outlets only. Retailer Assigned codes are part of the master list of IFPS PLU codes which can be utilized in the IFPS PLU scheme

In some countries, retailers have opted for national coordination of these numbers.

  • The IFPS PLU scheme for identifying produce sold in bulk/loose at retail was first introduced in the U.S. and Canada but has spread to include use by retailers in Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Norway, Sweden and Mexico.
  • An IFPS PLU code is a 4- or 5- digit number used to identify loose or bulk produce. The number can be used in the following ways:
  • It can be placed on a small sticker on the individual item.
  • In some instances, such as grapes or cherries, the IFPS PLU number is printed on the outside of the open bag.
  • If an item is too small, or the surface not appropriate to hold a sticker, the IFPS PLU code will not be on the item but will be used in retail systems and at the point-of-sale (cashier).
  • The use of IFPS PLU codes is voluntary. IFPS PLU codes utilize numbers in the ranges of 3000 – 4999, 93000 – 94999 and will expand to include the 83000 and 84000 series in the future.
  • A prefix of ‘9’ is used in front of the 4- digit number (3000 or 4000) to identify the item as organic creating the range 93000 – 94999 for organically grown produce items.
  • On the supply side of the industry, any grower/packer/shipper shipping to any country utilizing the IFPS PLU codes for fresh produce needs to ensure they meet the expectations of their customers. This typically means that the 4- or 5- digit number must be printed on a small sticker (or by other means depending on the produce) and adhered to the individual pieces of produce.
  • Foodservice operators/receivers do not typically utilize the IFPS PLU system since most of the produce they receive is used in food preparation but it is recommended that you discuss this issue with your foodservice customers.
  • Utilizing the correct IFPS PLU is crucial as an incorrect number will lead to incorrect identification, and therefore pricing, of product at the Point of Sale (POS). If an incorrect number is noticed before the produce is placed in the supermarket, retailers may request that the shipper re-label the product or may re-label it themselves. In either instance, it leads to additional costs in both material and staff resources

Basic Scope

The IFPS PLU scheme applies to loose produce, with the following qualifiers:

  • Produce is defined as fruits, vegetables, dried fruit, herbs, and nuts.
  • Most sealed, containerized or packaged produce falls outside of the scope of the IFPS PLU scheme as they use a barcode which is identified with a GTIN. There are some exceptions such as the example of grapes which are often packaged in a plastic bag with the IFPS PLU code clearly indicated on the bag. (The item is still sold as a variable weight item.) IFPS PLU Codes User’s Guide – September 2016 Page 7
  • Excluded from the scheme is produce that has been additionally processed (e.g. stuffed vegetables, juices, purées, portioned product, etc). The main criteria for deciding exclusions are:
  • additional foods, other than produce, are added to the basic item of loose produce.
  • additional processes require techniques other than minimal cutting to create the finished food product. This is because, in some countries, such processes are treated differently for food hygiene and labeling regulation compliance.
  • the IFPS needs to agree, on a case-by-case basis, on the amount of processing that is done in order to assign an IFPS PLU code (versus preparation).
  • grade, quality or regional variation shall not be an attribute which justifies a different IFPS PLU code.
  • geographic identification of growing region shall not be a justification for a global IFPS PLU.
  • produce that is identified by a trademark is not eligible for a unique IFPS PLU number.

 Range of IFPS PLU Codes

The block of codes allocated for global use need not be in a contiguous block. The numbers range in the 3000, 4000 and 83000 and 84000 series

Conventionally Grown Identification

The 3000 or 4000 series number signifies that the item is conventionally grown, i.e. 3000-4999. In the future, an additional range of numbers will be used, 83000-83999, for conventionally grown items.

Organic Identification

The prefix ‘9’ combined with a 3000 or 4000 series number signifies that the item is organic. i.e. 93000 – 94999. In the future, an additional range of numbers will be used, 84000-84999, for organically grown items.

Retailer Assigned Codes

Blocks of numbers have been left unassigned and are designated for use/assignment by individual retailers. These codes allow the retail introduction of new products which do not meet the criteria for assignment of a global code. The assignment and management of these codes is left entirely to the discretion of individual retailers and it is strongly recommended that suppliers using these codes ensure coordination in the event of more than one retail customer selling their new product

Using the IFPS PLU code

It is important to follow this guideline:

  • Don’t use an IFPS PLU on any bagged product always sold at that weight and not weighed in the store for pricing. You may use an IFPS PLU with a corresponding barcode (EAN-13, UPC) if the product can be sold either “by the each/per unit” or weighed for pricing.
  • It is incorrect to use both a barcode and IFPS PLU code(s) together on an item that can only be sold in a fixed weight form, such as a 1-pound bag of carrots. That bag of carrots is never sold in variable weight form: the cashier would never weigh it on the scale and determine its price based on a price per pound/kg. It is always sold just as is: a 1-pound bag of carrots and should carry the appropriate barcode.
  • Some retailers have indicated their preference for a barcode whenever possible on variable weight produce. This may vary from retailer to retailer and should be considered when preparing to code for the product. IFPS PLU Application – September 2016 15.

Benefits of Using IFPS PLU Standard Codes

Retailers who use standard codes report that these:

  • Improve scan data and pricing integrity · Enhance sales and profitability
  • Reduce labour and supply costs because clerks no longer need to label items in the store
  • Provide the building blocks for effective category management in the produce department

Shippers who use the standard codes report that these PLU codes:

  • Help variety sales and pricing by removing inefficient practices of cost averaging similar looking items at retail
  • Make compiled sales data more accessible from retailers and services which compile retail sales data
  • Make retailers more willing to carry additional varieties and recognize premium varieties or sizes
  • Do require a significant conversion cost in packing line machinery because labelling must be done after sizing, not before

IPC exams are on the head and pressure is soaring upon students. We are advising some IPC exam tips below to make the preparations easier and planned so that you can fetch higher marks and get qualified for next level.

1) First and foremost thing this last 20 days you should be only in the situation to revise not reading something new if some topics are untouched then don’t start them now as it will only kill your time.

2) It’s a common mistake that while preparing for Cost and F.M. students tend to ignore the theory portion. Let me remind you 20 marks Question is from there and it can be a decider whether you cross the line or not.

For that you can diligently learn all the theory questions from practice manual, nothing comes out of that.

3) In law, this is the time you give your attention to ethics and communication as in the previous months you all were engrossed in company law and case studies that ethics is left unattended, but it carries again 20-25 marks.

For that, you need to just understand what the chapter is trying to say. Don’t try to learn word by word, eventually, you’ll forget and kill your time. Your concept about a chapter should be clear, then answers will get framed automatically.

4)When it comes to Tax, considered as the most tricky and lengthy subject, here what I did is to first complete IDT, it will give you confidence and it gets finished easily and in much lesser time.

5) Now DT is very vast, for its complete revision, first try solving the sums which include all the adjustment of section (I remember it’s in chapter 8 of practice manual), then go for miscellaneous topics.

Another important aspect is that don’t try to mug up notes mentioned at the end of the question, understand what is contained therein, be accurate with the words of provisions and mention the same.

6) In Accounts ( group1) what you can do is, now that it’s the first exam, focus on accounting standards, generally, if some trick questions are there, they’re from AS and that too in the first Question, so it becomes compulsory for you to attempt. So very carefully read every AS and do written practice for the same.

7) Now when it comes to Advance Accounts, I think there are more practical sums in AS so do practice that from practice manual, chapters of advanced accounts are easy, because I feel you have the concept from group1 so you can handle this very easily if you have practised well.

8) So next paper is Audit, Focus on SA’s, try to quote section word by word, for that you need to practice a lot. If you have prepared your own notes, compare the level of answers with practice manual and incorporate some lines from it. If not then revise from practice manual, not word by but get the writing style from it.

9) Now the last paper, IT SM– start from chapter 3 as it is very long and tedious, you’ll gain confidence by finishing it first, then subsequently you can move to other chapters. In SM, don’t ignore the questions in the practice manual as there are a lot of questions from lines between chapters.

Diagrams of some important concepts should be kept in mind to fetch more marks.

General points:

1) Revise at least RTP of three terms, either you can download it or purchase the same.

2) Don’t hamper your sleeping routine as it will affect your health which you can’t afford.

3) Keep a track record of what you have studied and what not so that all areas get covered.

4) Always select the question first which you will not attempt, in the 15 minutes reading time, and in the first page of answer book, do not forget to check boxes for the questions you have attempted.

5) Wherever possible make maximum working notes but don’t invest too much time on a single question.

6) Carry a chocolate in the examination and have a bite in between or before the exam, this will relax you and help in attempting the question in a better manner.

Good luck:)

Europe loves soccer, Canada loves ice hockey, the U.S. loves American football and for whatever reason, India and Australia really love cricket — it’s the same old song. Obviously, not all Olympic sports are treated equally.

There were 306 events in 28 sports in Rio last year, including the classics such as swimming and gymnastics. But still, there are sports and their performers which are under the curtain even after being honored with gold.

This article has compiled the 12 most charmingly obscure Olympic games you probably miss out on.

1) Race walking

The Summer Olympics are full of some of the most iconic sporting events of all time. But what about the little-known sports that could use some much-needed love? These 16 sports aren’t so famous but they are, in fact, Olympic events.

Race walking, also known as speed walking debuted at the 1908 Games. Today, race walking seems to be at it most competitive, with every Olympic record being broken at the 2012 London Olympics.

2)Trampoline

Although it looks like fun, trampolining could very well be the most dangerous Olympic sport. Trampolinists perform at least 10 different acrobatic maneuvers, with five judges scoring their efforts. Since the sport’s Olympic debut in 2000, Canada has been the most successful trampolining country with six medals.

3)Dressage

Not counting a 12-year hiatus, dressage has been a mainstay in the Summer Olympics since 1900. Today, horses are specifically bred for this high-stepping sport. And horses’ dance-like movements–including the piaffe and passage–are much more extravagant than they were in in 1912.

4)Eventing

Call it the triathlon of horse and rider. Eventing has been a part of the Olympics since 1912. The competitors are judged across three disciplines: dressage, cross-country and show jumping.

5)Rhythmic gymnastics

Some might know rhythmic gymnastics for its ribbon dancing, but it’s so much more than that. Gymnasts are can use ribbons, balls, and, perhaps most interestingly, a hoop. The event has been part of the Olympics since 1984

6)Steeplechase

Steeplechase–which debuted at the 1900 summer Olympics–is the longest track-and-field race involving obstacles. The main obstacle of the 3,000-meter race contains a small body of water in the middle of the track. The women’s steeplechase was introduced in 2008.

7)Synchronized swimming

Debuting in 1984, synchronized swimming is a hybrid sport that combines swimming, dance, and gymnastics. Go ahead, make light of the sport … but then you try an elaborate routine, in unison … and underwater.

8)Canoe slalom

Don’t get this sport confused with rowing. Twelve years after starting as a demonstration sport, canoe slalom made its Olympics premiere in 1936. Think extreme canoeing, with athletes having to avoid obstacles and navigate rapids.

9)Canoe Sprint

From slalom to sprinting, canoeing is a big part of the Summer Olympics. Instead of just four events, canoe sprinting currently consists of 13 different kinds of competition. Since the first Olympic canoeing events in 1936, Hungary has won the most medals, with 77.

10)Modern pentathlon

Athletes who take part in the modern pentathlon are some of the most well-rounded competitors in the Olympics. The event is made up of five events that have nothing to do with each other. And nothing says “modern” like fencing, show jumping, pistol shooting, swimming and running.

11)BMX

It’s true: BMX racing is a real-life Olympic sport. BMX riding is judged solely on time, instead of freestyle tricks or dirt jumping. The event has been part of the Summer Olympics program since 2008.

12)Sailing

At first glance, one might think that capturing the power of wind wouldn’t qualify as an Olympic event. And one would be wrong. Sailing has been an Olympic event at every Summer Games except 1904.

Politics and selection of political parties & candidates always have had a major impact on India-US relationships on many fronts. These decisions affect economies of both countries, job prospects, and many such important aspects. Recently elected Donald Trump and his dynamic and ever-changing decisions kept the world on their toes. So before further analysis let dig into the life of the 45th president of USA.

So before further analysis let dig into the life of the 45th president of USA.

U.S.resident, real estate mogul and former reality TV star Donald John Trump was born in 1946, in Queens, New York. In 1971, he became involved in large, profitable building projects in Manhattan. In 1980, he opened the Grand Hyatt, which made him the city’s best-known developer. In 2004, Trump began starring in the hit NBC reality series The Apprentice, which also spawned the offshoot The Celebrity Apprentice. Trump turned his attention to politics, and in 2015 he announced his candidacy for president of the United States on the Republican ticket. After winning a majority of the primaries and caucuses, Trump became the official Republican candidate for president on July 19, 2016. That November, Trump was elected the 45th President of the United States, after defeating Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton.

Well! The US being an economy on which major decisions of world trade and market depends, even a slight change in the structure can cause huge difference and that too when decisions of the president were on the role as well as dynamic.

Let’s look out at some of the effects on the world.

1)Pull-out from Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP): Long promised throughout his election campaign, Trump signed the executive order to pull out of the TPP, days after his inauguration on 20 January.

2)Climate change: For now, the US seems to be adhering to the pact, though Trump’s “Energy Independence” executive order eliminates many Barack Obama-era restrictions on fossil fuel production. But it is unclear how the US will now achieve its carbon reduction goals.

3)Immigration: Trump has twice been challenged by the US courts on imposing a temporary travel ban on visitors from Iran, Somalia, Sudan, Yemen, Syria, and Libya. Initially, Trump’s first executive order also applied to those holding green cards but was struck down.

4)Syria: After advocating a hands-off approach towards the Syrian civil war, Trump authorized a Tomahawk missile attack targeting an airfield after a suspected chemical attack by the Syrian government

5)Taxes: In a bid to keep American businesses in America, Trump has proposed slashing corporate tax rates to 15% from the current 35%, and 39.6% for small businesses. Overseas corporate profits returning to the country will also be taxed at 15%. The measure is expected to be welcomed at home by small businesses.

6)Rolling back Obamacare: The Affordable Care Act pushed through by Obama, a campaign promise of Trump, seemed easier said than done when a section of Republicans themselves opposed the repeal. It was a setback for Trump which put a question mark on his ability to enact other major promises like tax reform and infrastructure investment.

POSITIVES OF DONALD TRUMP’S PRESIDENCY ON INDIA

1)Fight against terrorism: Trump always had a tough stance on Pakistan’s involvement in propagating terrorism. India could benefit in its collective fight against terrorism with the support of newly elected US president and America’s support. This will also strengthen Indo-US defense and strategic relations.

2)Chances of a Strong economy: Better defense relationship will give a chance to India for a positive boost in Indian economy with better strategic decisions and collaborative efforts from the US.

3)Better chances for entrepreneurs and students: Although Donald Trump wants to make stronger immigration rules; he at the same time, always welcomed the idea of giving better chances and more opportunities to Indian entrepreneurs and students in America. This will positively impact both the economies especially Indian economy.

4)Trade relations: Trump, throughout his entire campaign, was critical of China and its policies. India might gain upper hand in its trade relations if Trump imposes heavy tariffs in case of China not agreeing to rewrite trade agreements. His intended policies towards China are likely to benefit India. Trump openly commented on China as a threat and is apparently willing to start a trade war to prove his viewpoints. Trump will definitely need India, in case he decides to fight China’s trade policies, to project power in South Asia.

NEGATIVE IMPACT OF DONALD TRUMP’S PRESIDENCY ON INDIA

1)Donald Trump’s promise of bringing back jobs to the US from India might result in stricter immigration rules for Indians. This will make entry to the US for work much more difficult.

2)Trump’s political novices might result in companies like Microsoft, Gm and ford go back to the US due to Trump’s promise of reducing corporate tax substantially and companies would want to benefit from this.

3)Trump’s opinion on H1B visa program as unfair might negatively affect Indian IT companies and their stocks including the major ones such as Infosys and TCS. This will impact Indian IT sector in a big way.

4)Trumps impractical plans of negotiating all foreign trade deals in order to promote America might affect Indian trade treaties as well.

Having said this, Donald Trump definitely deserves a fair and nonjudgmental chance as the American president. He surely doesn’t have the political experience but he is a pretty successful businessman. His sharp business acumen has won him incredible wealth and it would be unfair to judge him based just on his bitterly fought campaign strategies. It will be interesting to see the developments in Indian-US relationships in the coming future under Donald Trump’s presidency. Hence what would be the possible results of today’s decision is still under the curtains of time. What we can do is accept the present giving him a fair chance and hope for the best!

Sunday breezy morning I woke up with and realized that newspapers were flooded with the words and phrases like “OBOR” and India’s stand on it. My curiosity multiplied when I read about India-China conflict. From there on, I took on the research on the subject to make readers well aware of what’s it all about.

Nepal officially inked the One Belt One Road (OBOR) deal with China leaving India as the only South-Asian country not to be involved in the Asian superpower’s ambitious project. The deal, which was  signed in Kathmandu, allowed development of cross-border connectivity and more. With the exception of Bhutan, which has no diplomatic ties with China, every other South Asian country has signed into OBOR. Heads of the State of Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Maldives and Myanmar and high-level delegations from Bangladesh and Nepal attended the two-day Belt and Road Forum in China on 14th and 15th May 2017.

So what exactly is OBOR?

Touted as Chinese President Xi Jinping’s ambitious project, the One Belt One Road (OBOR) initiative focuses on improving connectivity and cooperation among Asian countries, Africa, China and Europe. The emphasis is on enhancing land as well as maritime routes. The policy is significant for China since it aims to boost domestic growth in the country. Experts have noted that OBOR is also a part of China’s strategy for economic diplomacy. Considering China’s exclusion from G7, OBOR policy might just provide China an opportunity to continue its economic development.

Why is India opposed to OBOR?

The main reason behind India’s opposition towards the policy is the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which is a part of OBOR. Recent Chinese reports claim that following the launch of CPEC in Pakistan, the country has received investments worth more than $46 billion. “We are all for promoting connectivity… but on the OBOR, our position is that since the so-called CPEC forms a part of OBOR, and it passes through Indian territory, that is where our difficulty lies,” External Affairs Ministry Spokesman Gopal Baglay had cleared Indian stand on the issue. Citing sovereignty issues, India has raised objections over CPEC projects in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). China, however, has not tried to attenuate India’s concerns. “The CPEC is a flagship project, but all countries in South Asia have now confirmed participation in the Belt and Road Forum and are making use of the initiative,” Wang Dehua, Director, Institute for South and Central Asia Studies in Shanghai made a neutral statement.[1]

Belt and Road Forum?

Beijing hosted the two-day Belt and Road Forum (BRF) from May 14 facilitating high-level delegations talks among leaders, including 29 Heads of State, on OBOR.  India did not attend the forum.

Nepal in, India absent: What does this mean for India?

Nepal and India have sustained good bilateral ties. However, with China entering the equation, India might just have a hard time in keeping its status intact. Chinese foreign policy experts have noted that Nepal’s inclusion in OBOR may force India to join the initiative or face exclusion. Hu Shisheng, Director of the China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations, told “If India does not participate in the Belt and Road Initiative, something all her neighbours are positive about, then the neighbours will have cause to complain. This is not constructive for India and will reduce its appeal in the region. The neighbours may ask questions like why is India not involved?”

India’s stand on the issue

India has strong reservations over the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, a flagship project of the connectivity initiative.

In a strongly-worded statement, India escalated its opposition to OBOR, suggesting that the project is little more than a colonial enterprise, leaving debt and broken communities in its wake.

“We are of the firm belief that connectivity initiatives must be based on universally recognised international norms, good governance, rule of law, openness, transparency and equality. Connectivity initiatives must follow principles of financial responsibility to avoid projects that would create unsustainable debt burden for communities; balanced ecological and environmental protection and preservation standards; transparent assessment of project costs; and skill and technology transfer to help long term running and maintenance of the assets created by local communities.Connectivity projects must be pursued in a manner that respects sovereignty and territorial integrity ,” Baglay said

Sri Lanka is a big example, where an unviable Hambantota port project has left Colombo reeling under $8 billion debt.

What should India do?

OBOR project is expected to give China an incomparable upper hand vis-a-vis India. New Delhi aspires for a friendly neighbourhood but considering the constant security threat, it faces from Pakistan and often from China even now, India cannot afford to play second fiddle to Beijing. And even if it decides to join OBOR, it cannot afford to be a junior partner.

India needs to speed up its own infrastructure projects and find ways to strengthen its sphere of influence. Raja Mohan suggests at least three ways in which India can tackle China’s OBOR challenge:[2]

First, India should ramp internal connectivity. Raja Mohan, Strategic Affairs expert, says that China didn’t start OBOR as an external initiative but it was “built upon the top of the internal “Go West” strategy that focused, over the last two decades, on unifying China’s domestic market and connecting its developed east coast with the interior provinces.”

Second, the expert says that India should modernise connectivity across its land and maritime frontiers with neighbouring countries. “China is certainly not responsible for India neglecting its inherited trans-border connectivities since Independence; nor has Beijing stopped India from building road and rail links to its borders.”

Third, India should work with countries like Japan and multilateral institutions to develop regional connectivity in the Indian Subcontinent and beyond the same.

The fate of the project and India’s Stand with Changing government is still unknown but witnessing the current situation it appears joining hands with China is not on a to-do list for India.

Success is no accident. It is work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and mostly the love of what you are doing or learning to do.

From an idea to an established institution – From a baby to a youth who is exploring the pathway of success – Kailasha Foundation has been one such example. It is often being said that it is easy to manage a well-known organization but it takes courage and luck beside an individual (or a group of individuals) who dare(s) to execute ideas. Well, I’m quite lucky enough to come across three such personalities who
dared to have a vision which everyone dreams of.

Three normal people from random places met because the destiny wanted so. Hard Work – this term is not enough, to sum up, the amount of hard work and labour they put in, on daily basis on each and every student.

Well, first of all, let me make of aware you what does this word Kailasha mean, it’s actually a combination of ‘Kailash’ and ‘Asha’, who are the proud parents of one of our founders. It all started at a tea stall when three friends dreamt of breaking the shackles of this stereotypical method of teaching. They made a point that what they had to face won’t be the story of the children in the coming generation.
The sole mission of this organization is to touch students in the remotest corner of the country.

As it is said that you don’t get a way out until you are lost, every organization has its ups and downs but the ones which bounce back to the difficulties get their share of recognition. There were hard times and of course difficulties were there, but strong will and determination got us out of the situation. Now they stand at a place where their name has become much familiar in students’ circles.

The idea to reach every student who got a query about any field covering every aspect of each subject distinguishes it from any organization. The society where every organization is busy in the multiplication of profits, this particular online portal aims at giving free open courses to every end user. Because teaching is not a profession it’s a responsibility.

We are always being told that in the corporate world, Boss is always right, but here I guess the idea of
a boss is non-existent rather people are engrossed in solving each and every query that comes on the
way. Here members are the word designated irrespective of how new one individual is. And members
do not achieve targets rather they contribute their part of thinking in every way one can. The result of that was very much visible when two of the regular students cleared their CA CPT exam and got 150+ and dedicated the same to this organization. This was the first visible achievement.

Of course, it is an under-development model. But the success and recognition it has achieved so far are commendable.

Kailasha has 300+ supporting members and 30+ regular contributing members along with professionally hired 5+ interns today. Kailasha has its reach to 20,000+ students of India and it has a huge following on social media. It is expanding daily and is achieving by contributing and learning daily.

As far as journey part is concerned, the following points are worth mentioning:

  • From a WhatsApp number with reach up to just 15 students in 2014 when it was just a raw idea, It has come a long way to what you are looking at today in 2017.
  • 18th September 2016 – a Facebook page was created and launched, that’s when it officially started
  • 25th October 2016 was the launch date of YouTube Channel
  • 16th December 2016 was the member hiring date
  • May 2017 – Kailasha got registered as an LLP: Kailasha Online Learning LLP
  • 14th January 2017 was Website launch date
  • August 2017 – Kailasha hired interns from reputed institutions
  • team rather than organisation, where everyone gets his/her value
  • A team where ‘member’ means ‘family member’

As this portal assures of response in less than 24 hours and sure solution too (if not unavoidable circumstances) it has well maintained the pace of query solving even after attaining much recognition among students and regular readers. As a personal opinion, I find it much encouraging for an individual with analytical skills to present his/her views regarding any matter of current importance. Lastly, I just want to say that it has multiplied its growth day by day not only through problem-solving but placing trust in the heart of every student.

Coming together is a beginning, keeping together is progress, working together is the success.

Don’t forget to meet our stars in the ‘Meet our Team’ tab and ‘Interns’ Diaries’ tab from the top menu of this website. Moreover, if you loved the journey and its story, don’t forget to share with your friends.

Thank You!

Watching a game from the remotest corner of the world is no more a surprise but media and sports or as we say production and marketing department has become complementary in past 20-25 years. In many ways, both today’s sport and the media are classic outcomes and, indeed, icons of the far-reaching social, economic and technological change that characterized the twentieth century.

Each has developed extensively and rapidly as a major global industry. Each plays a significant part in structuring and informing people’s lives. Each has a global as well as more local scope of operation and has the structures and practices to reflect this.

Importantly, they are two industries tied together in complex networks of relationships. Their respective histories of development have been fuelled and influenced by the dynamics of this partnership. The evidence of the partnership is all too apparent. The wellbeing of particular sports or, indeed, sport as a whole has become linked to income generated directly or indirectly from the media.

The way in which sport fills newspaper pages and television and radio schedules bear testimony to the influence it has on the structure and extent of media activity.

Over the years how this driving force has globally marketed sports. Let’s have a quick eye upon some of its impacts

How media affects sports

1) Some sports have had to change to be more amenable to media coverage

2) Television influence participation rates in certain sports

(when channel 4 showed volleyball between 1980 and 84, affiliation rose by 70%. When table tennis was no longer covered, participation dropped by a third)

3) Participation in sport is falling and this is partly attributed to too much watching of sport. However, studies like The Wolfenden Report suggest watching sport on TV may actually positively influence people to take up a sport.

3) When British teams do well in a sport at the Olympics there is often an increase in grassroots participation.

4) Spectatorism is on the decline because it is more comfortable to watch the game from home.

5) This is why football clubs charge large fees to TV companies wanting to televise the match.

Positive Effects of media on sports

The media coverage of sport has good effects:

Money-Media companies pay for the rights to show a sporting event. Also, sports shown on the tv generate more sponsorship.

Education – People learn the rules of the sport from watching it on TV.

Role models – Seeing good sports people on TV and in newspapers makes them a role model for people to look up to.

Inspiration – Media brings sports to people who may not normally get to experience it otherwise.

This can encourage people to get involved.

But when it comes to Indian media all these are squeezed upon one sport upon which Indian media has showered all its love upon.

Literally defining sports means that:

Sport: competitive games that are won or lost on the basis of physical skills and played according to specific rules.

Well, these dictionary meaning has no relevance for Indian media, pragmatically it has a dictionary of its own. We often cry and hue when Indian cricket team or to be “specific” Indian men’s cricket team lose a match while someone on the different court picks up a gold medal.

The struggle of a true sportsperson is quietly ignored and he is being silenced just because his story or the sport is not marketable to the media. While on the other hand, the families of cricketers are more popular than genuine sports personalities in our country. True notice of the achievements is only made when a player is in finals.

surprisingly same media is being flooded with the stories of the same sportsperson. “Cricket is our religion” this phrase is often used by cricket lovers and to make it true Indian media has put a lot of effort on that. Record-breaking TRP’s and acceptance of the greatness of a particular sport placed cricket on the pinnacle of Indian sports.

Well, the time has come where Indian needs to accept sports as a religion rather than worshipping a particular sport.
