The inaugural women’s day occurred on 19th March 1911. The March 19 date was chosen because it commemorated the day that the Prussian king promised to introduce votes for women in 1848. The promise gave hope for equality but it was a promise that he failed to keep. The International Women’s Day date was moved to March 8 in 1913. A little less than 2 centuries have passed since the Prussian King broke his promise of equal rights for women but promises are still being broken when it comes to equality for women. Without a doubt, much progress has been made to protect and promote women’s rights in recent times. However, nowhere in the world can women claim to have all the same rights and opportunities as men, according to the UN. The majority of 1.3 billion absolute poor of the world are women. On average, women receive between 30 and 40 per cent less pay than men earn for the same work. Women also continue to be victims of violence, with rape and domestic violence listed as significant causes of disability and death among women worldwide.

International Women’s Day, is a public holiday in some countries such as Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Russia, Ukraine. For one day the whole world is busy celebrating women’s day, sharing quotes on social media, uploading stories here and there but very next day they treat women like nothing.

In June 2018, Thomson Reuters Foundation — the philanthropic arm of Reuters media company – released a study that ranked India as the most dangerous place for a female because of its high incidences of sexual violence, lack of access to justice in rape cases, child marriage, female feticide and human trafficking. India outranked countries such as Syria and Afghanistan, second and third, that are currently at war, between 2007 and 2016, there were four cases of rape every hour. There are 63 million “missing” women in the country because of sex-selective abortion, as well as 21 million unwanted girls. Things changed drastically since ‘Beti Padhao, Beti Bachao’ was implemented but still lots to do towards it.

Feminism has been singularly responsible for redressing these deeply sexist social injustices. This is an undeniable and morally reprehensible truth that women have faced countless brutal forms of institutionalized discrimination since time immemorial and in all sorts of cultural settings.
But some forms of feminism have been harmful in that they have built an ideological foundation that is anti-male. Apparently, misogyny is reprehensible and evil but misandry is virtuous and laudable. This extreme form of feminism refers to, women being superior. This notion is harmful not only for society but women also, because women are not superior, or inferior, nor do they need a particular day to be remembered. But like all humans, like other genders, they need to be recognised for the hard work they do. They need rights and should be allowed to exercise them without any prejudice, bias. Also, they need to be credited for their noteworthy achievements and should be allowed to falter, because they, like all others, know how to stand again. There are numerous examples where women showed outstanding courage and self-belief and stood lonely for themselves, Padma Shri Dr Arunima Sinha is one one of them, she is the first female amputee to scale Mount Everest and Mount Vinson. The former national volleyball and football player, boarded the Padmavati Express train at Lucknow for Delhi on 12 April 2011, to take an examination to join the CISF. She was pushed out of a general coach of the train by robbers wanting to snatch her bag and gold chain. Immediately, as she fell on the railway track, another train on a parallel track crushed her leg below the knee. She was rushed to the hospital with serious leg and pelvic injuries and lost her leg after doctors amputated it to save her life. Arunima proved, a woman can overcome from any circumstances even as worst as she faced on her own.
Her aim was to climb all the continents’ highest peaks and hoist the national flag of India. She has already done six peaks by 2014: Everest in Asia, Kilimanjaro in Africa, Elbrus in Europe, Kosciuszko in Australia, Aconcagua in Argentina and Carstensz Pyramid (Puncak Jaya) in Indonesia. She completed her final summit of Mount Vinson in Antarctica on 4 January 2019.

“A woman is like a tea bag- you never know how strong she is until she gets in hot water”

A woman is like a tea bag- you never know how strong she is until she gets in hot water” well said by Eleanor Roosevelt, the longest serving first lady of the USA and Dr Arunima Sinha is living proof of that. Once Hillary Clinton said that “Nation that invests in women’s employment, health and education are just more likely to have better outcomes. Their children will be healthier and better educated. So this is not just the right thing to do for us to hold up these women, to support them, to encourage their involvement; this is a strategic imperative“. Considering the very reason Kailasha Foundation – Fun & Learn Portal dedicated the first edition of it’s e-magazine to women and issues related to them. It talks about periods and sanitary napkins. The e-magazine was named The Power Of Wings, released this year on 15th of January. To awaken the people, it is the women who must be awakened. Once she is on the move, the family moves, the village moves, and finally, the nation moves.

“My job is not to be easy on people. My job is to make them better.” Steve Jobs

(In an exclusive 2008 interview, Jobs talked with Fortune senior editor Betsy Morris about the keys to Apple’s success.)

This what leaders exactly do. Leadership is about influencing people towards development & change. Leaders are the people with an abundance of self-belief. Let us have a look at some qualities of the great leaders.

Great leaders are the creature of confidence

While most individuals know that it is important to have a certain amount of confidence in a leadership position, Steve Jobs showcased just how important this was with his own efforts with his products. There is a story when steve jobs wanted a special type of glass for the front of the iPhone and he wanted it quick. When an employee told him it was impossible, Jobs simply said “Yes you can do it. You can deliver, don’t be afraid.” This type of confidence not only in himself and in his products, but also in others is what made Jobs the leader so many know him as today.

Great leaders are Adaptable

As Martin Luther King Jr. stated, “Our very survival depends on our ability to stay awake, to adjust to new ideas, to remain vigilant and face the challenge of change.
To become a good leader it is important to have the ability to adjust to new ideas, to remain vigilant and face the challenge of change.
Martin Luther King Jr., one of the greatest leader in the history of the human race, had an unmatched ability to adapt to any circumstances. Regardless of the cards he and his Movement’s followers were dealt, King deftly adjusted his strategy. From the march from Selma to Birmingham to his Birmingham letter, King was never dispirited in the face of adversity.

Great Leaders inspire people around them

As John Quincy Adams puts it, “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.” If you are successful in inspiring your subordinates, you can easily overcome any current and future challenge easily. Steve Jobs, Abraham Lincoln and all the great leaders used to inspire people around them.

Accountability

Let’s have a look what Arnold H Glasow has to say about Accountability  “A good leader takes little more than his share of the blame and little less than his share of the credit.”  Holding people around you accountable for their actions will create a sense of responsibility among your subordinates and they will go about the business more seriously.

Creativity and Innovation

What separates a leader from the followers? Steve Jobs answers “Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower.” Challenging the ‘status quo’, is what separates the leaders apart from the crowd. Creativity is oxygen of a great leader.

Vision

Above all things, a great leader must have a strong vision and this creative vision challenges his subordinates and drives them to act with vision as well. Great leaders always thinks of the future and always have a clear idea of what he wanted to move towards. This was Steve Jobs vision which helped him pull his team together and helped them work towards a common goal whenever he had a new idea for the future of Apple.

As we all know, the world is getting more complex as fast as it is growing. No one has the time enough to take care of themselves. In this tittle-tattle, we forget that every decision we take, every move we make, is operated by our own brain. Our brain is never off-duty, it keeps working incessantly even we are sleeping. It is common and pretty natural for it to have some disorders. These disorders are treatable but serious. We need to know and understand these disorders related to the brain to get rid of them and prevent ourselves from some serious consequences.
Stress, Anxiety and Depression.  Just about everyone feels these emotions at some time. All are common reactions to life’s challenges, from losing a loved one to going through a divorce. On the surface, they can look a lot alike, but there are distinct differences.
Anxiety, Stress and Depression are different but all are interrelated.
Stress is usually characterized by a sense of feeling overwhelmed. This feeling may be due to your coping capacity being over-stretched or having been under pressure for too long. Some stress can help us to perform our day to day functions, too much stress leaves us “distressed” and often exhausted.
Stress and anxiety may seem similar on the ground, but they’re not the same. Stress is a response to daily pressures or a threatening situation, while anxiety is a reaction to the stress. Anxiety, which has no clear cause, tends to last longer and be more difficult to treat.
Anxiety is a sense of fear or dread that something terrible is going to happen. Anxiety can be general or specific to a place, social situation or thing (phobia). If you often feel anxious or depressed for no apparent reason, you may have an anxiety disorder, depression, or both. It’s not unusual for someone to suffer from both conditions at the same time. In fact, just about half of those diagnosed with depression are also diagnosed with an anxiety disorder.
Depression refers to an experience where you feel down most of the time which is called “low mood” and you have also lost interest in things you usually enjoy. You may also have changes in your sleep, appetite, feel guilty, de-motivated and generally withdraw from others.
To lead a healthy and successful life, we need to understand our brain. All the functionality of our body is nothing but a response to the electromagnetic impulse generated by our brain. When we understand our brain well then it becomes easy to cope with problems related to it.

In a simple and genuine way “Diplomacy is the art of letting someone have it, your way”.
The term diplomacy is derived from the ancient Greek root diplōma, composed of Diplo, meaning “folded in two,” and the suffix -ma, meaning “an object.” The folded document conferred a privilege—often a permit to travel—on the bearer. Diplomacy later became identified with international relations.

Theoretically, Diplomacy is the art and practice of conducting negotiations between representatives of states. On a societal level, diplomacy simply is the tactics of dealing with people successfully, employing legacy and skill to ensure there is no animosity

Diplomacy is the chief instrument of foreign policy. The representative of the sides or the different states are called diplomats. Diplomacy is an ancient practice of conducting negotiations. The 3,295 Years old Amarna letters in cuneiform writing on a clay tablet written between the pharaohs of the Eighteenth dynasty of Egypt and the Amurru rulers of Canaan during the 14th century BC is the evidence that it is in practice since most ancient times. Ancient India, with its kingdoms and dynasties, had a long tradition of diplomacy. The oldest treatise on statecraft and diplomacy, Arthashastra, is attributed to Kautilya.

There are several types of diplomacy, let’s have a look.
Preventive Diplomacy is the use of different diplomatic tools to prevent disputes from arising or to prevent existing disputes from escalating into violent conflicts. Preventive Diplomacy is the defining concept of future diplomacy.
Public Diplomacy is also known as People’s Diplomacy is various government-sponsored efforts aimed at communicating directly with foreign publics. Public diplomacy includes all official efforts to convince targeted sectors of foreign opinion to support or tolerate a government’-s strategic objectives.
Soft Power: According to Joseph Nye, It is the cultivation of relationships, respect, or even admiration from others in order to gain influence, as opposed to more coercive approaches.
Economic Diplomacy deals with nexus power and wealth in international affairs
Counterinsurgency diplomacy is public diplomacy carried out with military means and in tandem with the approach taken by the military.
Gunboat diplomacy is the use of conspicuous displays of military strength as a means of intimidation in order to influence others.
Migration Diplomacy is the use of diplomatic tools, processes, and procedures to manage cross-border population mobility.
Appeasement is a policy of making concessions to an aggressor in order to avoid confrontation
Nuclear diplomacy is the area of diplomacy related to preventing nuclear proliferation and nuclear war.

Diplomacy is the chief tool of foreign policy, it is used to pursue the country’s interests, to engage in international discourse, and to alleviate friction between sovereign states.

EdTech is one of the most discussed topics these days. Edtech or Educational Technology is what exactly It is termed in common. From the elementary education to the education provided at Premium Universities around the globe, every single way of education which involves technology to make learning & teaching more easier and graspable comes under the circumference of EdTech or Educational Technology.  In a more apprehensible way, EdTech is the use of technological processes and resources to improve education. To improve learning and pedagogy, it is technology in forms of products, apps, and tools, affecting every single stage of the educational journey.

The unchanged educational industry from the centuries has seen a revolutionary change since it encountered the techno world. Technology has changed the old & dogmatic world of education. Nowadays when everyone has a smartphone in there hand and internet connectivity is stronger and cheaper than ever, sharing of information has become easier. Involvement of technologies has helped the educators to impart education with more convenient and apprehensive way. Not more year has passed since USB, Video Lectures and other smart learning programs were beyond the understanding of common people and nowadays it has come into the reach of everyone it facilitated the education industry to grow so rapidly. The Indian education market is expected to almost double to $180 billion by 2020, buoyed by the rapid expansion of the digital learning market. A lot of digital learning firms came into existence, in spite of making education & learning more convenient and cheaper they started to exploit the market. High rates of subscription charges, products and services stretched the gap between rich & poor more wider.

The Kailasha Foundation- Fun & Learn came into being with the ambition to bridge this gap between the rich & the poor. The Kailasha foundation is a free online tutorial, career counseling & doubt solving platform. It is an initiative to help out students who are in need. An institution always determined to impart the quality of education to the students of any social or economic class.

EdTech has changed everything in the education sector, it has changed the entire concept of teaching & learning but there is one thing which won’t change ever and that is the importance of a teacher. The entire EdTech revolves around the teacher.  It is the teacher who makes these technologies useful and effective for the students. EdTech is nothing but a helping hand of the educator. It can never take place of a teacher.
Indisputably EdTech is the future of education. It has made this more effective & easier. Rapidly digitization of mankind and increasing interconnectivity among people has made it EdTech accessible.

A piece of writing or article which is written by a senior publisher or editorial staff of a newspaper or magazine is called Editorial. An editorial is an opinion piece but unlike a column in a newspaper isn’t written from a single writers personal opinion.
Instead, it is the opinion of the publication. In a more simple way, an editorial is a piece of opinion by Senior editors based on their experience and research that are not strictly news. These pieces usually show up on the dedicated page, called the editorial page, which often features letters to the editor from members of the public; the page opposite this page is called the op-ed page and frequently contains opinion pieces by writers not directly affiliated with the publication.
An editorial is often called Leading article in US or Leader in the UK. In another much broader sense “Editorial” also refers to the all the content in a journal publication.
Illustrated Editorials appear in the form of Cartoon Editorials. They typically combine artistic skill, hyperbole, and satire in order to question authority and draw attention to corruption, political violence, and other social ills. The editorials featured with often full-page photographs on a particular theme, designer, model or another single topic, with or without accompanying text are called photo editorials. Photo-Editorials are published in Fashion Journals.

There are four categories or types of editorials:

1. Editorial of Argumentation: The purpose of which is to energize readers to think the same way as the writer. This is often called editorial of persuasion. The editor argues in order to convince or persuade the reader to accept his take on the issue.
2. Editorial of Information/Interpretation-  It seeks to give information on facts of news stories or add other facts with minimum explanation. It may define terms, identify persons or factors or provide background.
3. Editorial of Tribute, Praise, and Commendation: It praises, comments, or pays tribute to a person or organization that has performed some worthwhile projects or deeds, or accomplishments.
4. Editorial of Entertainment –  It evokes a smile, a chuckle, laughter while suggesting truth. Its main aim is to entertain. It is usually short.

Editorial of Entertainment can be grouped in two sub-categories.

 a) Humor as a vehicle to bring public awareness to an issue that’s not serious in nature.
An example – a humorous campaign targeting dog walkers who don’t pick up after their furry children.
b) Satire or sarcasm used to highlight a very serious topic e.g.: sexual assault on college campuses.
.
Editorials are certainly the best part of publications and are a “must read” . A keen reader never misses the editorial pages. For instance , news daily “The Hindu” , published in India is famous for its editorial section so much so that competitive exam aspirants who may/may not engulf the entire newspaper end up spending few minutes on the editorial section anyway.

Traditionally, Competitive Advantage is described as the trait of allowing an organization to outperform its rivals on the same market platform. Competitive advantages depend upon a variety of factors including structuring of costs, the product quality, branding, the distribution network, intellectual property, and customer service.

In a more simple way,  Competitive Advantages are conditions which allow the productive entity to generate more sales or superior margins compared to its market competitors. When the competitive advantages are sustainable, it is difficult for the rivals to neutralize the advantage.

To create a competitive advantage, you’ve got to be clear about, firstly, What is the real benefit your product provide? You must know not only your product’s features but also its advantages how they benefit your customers. Secondly, Who are your customers? What are their needs? You’ve got to know exactly who buys from you, and how you can make their life better. Thirdly, Have you recognized your real competitors? That’s more than just similar companies or products. It includes anything else your customer could do to meet the need you can fulfill. These three determinants got to be cleared by an organization to create a competitive advantage.

The two main types of competitive advantages are comparative advantage and differential advantage.
A firm’s ability to produce a good or service more efficiently than its competitors, which leads to greater profit margins, creates a Comparative advantage.  And, a Differential Advantage is when a firm’s products or services differ from its competitors’ offerings and are seen as superior.

A country can also create competitive advantage.

Why Chinese products are so cheap and at a reasonable quality level? It can do this because its standard of living is lower, so it can pay its workers less. It also fixes the value of its currency, the yuan, at a value lower than the dollar. China uses cost leadership. It’s called national competitive advantage or comparative advantage.

Former Economic Affairs Secretary of India Mr. Shaktikanta Das assumed the RBI Governor’s office as 25th Governor  after Dr. Urjit Patel surprisingly withdrew himself from the post. Mr. Shaktikanta Das is the first I.A.S officer to assume the RBI Governor’s office after straight 28 years since, Mr. S. Venkitaraman left the office. Shaktikanta Das is 1980 batch I.A.S officer of Tamil Nadu cadre. He was earlier a member of the 15th Finance Commission of India.

India’s Sherpa to the G20 born in Bhuvneshwar got his M.A. degree in History from St. Stephan’s College, Delhi University. He is also an alumnus of Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore, Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta and National Institute of Banking and Management. Mr Das is the 14th career bureaucrat including 12 IAS/ICS officers to hold the position. He has got the tenure as an RBI Governor till 2021.

He was appointed by PMO after the recommendation of the Finance Ministry. He was one of the key people involved in the execution of the demonetisation. He was question by BJP leader Subramaniam Swamy, The Economist himself for his association with former finance minister P Chitambaram in acquiring real estate in Mahabalipuram when Das was Industry Secretary in Tamil Nadu. He is in  the good books of The Prime Minister.

The reason of abruptly quitting the position by Mr. Urjit Patel is unknown but all the eyes are set on Mr. Das, let’s see what his 3 year tenure brings for financial conditions of the nation.

“Every institution must maintain its professional integrity and autonomy, at the same time every institution must adhere to principles of accountability.” – Mr. Shaktikanta Das

.

“I believe he can engage with all the stakeholders because to my mind, many of the current issues and situations have come also because of a large gap in communication, which I am sure Mr. Das with his experience and past engagement would be able to fill in.” – S. S. Mundra, Former Deputy Governor, RBI

.

“The person itself doesn’t matter that much. What really matters is the process. So if you have a situation where a position as important as the governor of the RBI is filled within 24 hours of the resignation of the incumbent that will raise eyebrows. People are going to say the government must have already decided that this person is going to take over.” – Pronab Sen, Former Chief Statistician of India
