  1. Here n = 3,

    So maximum number of electron an orbital can accomdate = 2n^2

    So maximum electrons an orbital with n = 3 can carry is = 2(3)^2 = 18.

    We knows that in an orbit there are electrons with opposite spin quantum number so half of the above will have positive spin quantum number and other half will have negative spin quantum number.

    So, maximum number of electrons with n = 3 and spin = -1/2 will be 9.
