English and Foreign Language University (EFLU) – Dream Career Destination
The English and Foreign Language University (EFLU) is a dream destination for many. The former name of EFLU is the Central Institute Of English and Foreign Languages. It is the only college in South Asia which is forging forward with the motivation of spreading the study of English and foreign languages.
It provides the special advanced research and training with different languages such as Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Russian, Japanese, Korean, Persian and Turkish coming under different categories – Teacher education, linguistic, cultural studies etcetera. The major motive of EFLU is to develop teacher proficiency.

The branch in Shillong offers the following courses, BA in English, Mass communication, journalism, MA in English, linguistics, mass communication, journalism, English literature, M. Phil and PhD courses in English literature and English language education studies including diploma and advanced diploma courses in French, German, Spanish and Russian language followed by Lucknow offering PG Diploma in English teaching, degree and research programmes.
The present cut off marks in the entrance tests for admission in all types of courses are:
Unreserved – 50%
OBC – 45%
Others – 30%

Students are eligible to take admissions in MA English only if they have a bachelor degree from a known and recognised university with 55% aggregate marks for General and OBC, others must have at least 50% aggregate marks in UG level.
The entrance exam is conducted at the end of February and the result comes out at the end of May. Counselling takes place during mid-June followed by the interview.
You shouldn’t worry about the entrance in UG level. It includes all the courses from 10+2 and you just have to be a grammar nazi as it holds the most important part. Same for the PG level. You need to read about different literally works of renowned writers. You should be good in vocabulary too.
There are many career options after MA in foreign languages. One can be a translator whose job is to translate books, articles, subtitles. Then comes interpreter, who translates the speech orally in another language simultaneously. This is a job which is highly in demand and offers a good financial income. One can also choose the teaching profession if he/she is passionate and patient about the work. Many people are becoming bloggers and writers which is commendable and intriguing.
