Now it has become a race. Everybody is running. We choose engineering because they say it is a good, glamorous, exciting, and career-making choice. So, we also start running. Sooner or later, most of us figure out that we have been cheated. Have we really been cheated? Let’s discuss it.
We see people from an engineering background doing a lot of things with much versatility. Almost all of them end up doing something they were not supposed to do. But whatever they do, they make a difference. Not always, but in most cases.
1. What is engineering?
Ans.: Engineering is ‘innovation’. Assembling available knowledge to provide ‘solutions’. Doing something new. Engineers are necessary. Engineers are supposed to be geniuses. Engineers are geniuses, indeed. Manipulation of available knowledge in a constructive manner to result in innovation, inventions and discoveries is engineering.
2. An example (or proof) that engineers are geniuses?
Ans.: There are many. The most recent example is the CAT 2016 result where all of the toppers were engineers.
3. Engineering trains our minds to do things under pressure beautifully.
4. Engineering shapes us to think in a totally different manner.
5. An engineer can do almost anything; example: become an IAS officer, an actor, a chef, a comedian,
an entrepreneur, a politician, and much more.
Q. What makes engineers so special?
A: Engineers study 40-60 subjects in 4 years with a daily class routine of 8-10 hours, where after every 20-25 days of classes, there are 5-10 days of exams, tests,projects, etc.
An engineer has to study papers other than his interests also, viz. economics, accountancy, organizational behavior, industrial psychology, English, etc. And to do so, he has to prepare for entrance exams for 2+ years.
This makes engineers special. Engineers are, in fact, a wonderful ‘species’.
