abdicate, relinquish and give up

  1. 1.Abdicate-) To disclaim and expel from the family, as a father his child; to disown; to disinherit.

    2.Relinquish-To give upabandon or retire from something. To trade away.

    3.Give Up-To stop or quit (an activity, etc).

    Basically,The meaning of Relinquish and Give up Is same.Both are synonyms to one another.

    Abdicate means formally or publically giving up a position, power or responsibility by his / her own will

    Ex- Atlast a compromise took place and the king was requested to abdicate in favour of his son.

    Relinquish means voluntarily cease to keep or claim on something or unwillingly stop holding something.

    Ex – She relinquished her confidence on her son.

    Give up – it means admitting defeat.

    Ex – I gave up taking junk food to maintain a healthy diet.
